Last Half of Summer

I think it was three years ago when I decided to set aside my blog for the entirety of August to work on my WiP. And yes, it did help me, which was kind of a shocker to me. At the time, I thought my mind would race towards the blog every chance it got… but it didn’t.

I was ruminating about that time earlier this week, considering whether or not I should try doing something similar this year. I have two projects going on simultaneously. And one of them relies on the other one getting done. The reality is I have all the time in the world to finish these jobs. There isn’t anyone or anything standing over me telling me that I have a time limit. I just have to stay alive and be able to write in order to finish them. All the same, I have tentative ventures waiting in the wings that I’d like to work on after these two. I’m not going to live forever, and there will probably be a time in the future when writing won’t be possible for me.

My decision is to put my nose to the grindstone and do as much work as I can on these two projects while I still have the motivation. I’ll be taking some time off from blogging–at least on any kind of regular basis anyway. I don’t know how much time I’m going to need, but I believe I can safely assume there won’t be any regularity to my blog posts again until after the Labor Day weekend. For those of you in countries that don’t have this holiday, it’s the first weekend in September. There isn’t a specific day for this celebration. It’s more of just enjoying a three-day weekend to unofficially close summer for the current year.

I’ll still be around. I’ll be reading blogs and giving comments on the posts when I need a break from my work. Every once in a while, I’m sure I’ll want to sent out a post into the cyber cosmos. Also, I will still be available by email at glynis.jolly@outlook.com.

See you in September. 😛 [Do you remember The Lettermen?]

“I never could have done what I have done without the habits of punctuality, order, and diligence, without the determination to concentrate myself on one subject at a time.” — Charles Dickens

  1. Best of luck with the writing and two projects, Glynis. Sometimes we all need to get away from our routines to do what we have to do and want to do. No distractions, plenty of focus is what we need to achieve our dreams. Take a break when you need to and don’t stress. Things will fall into place 🙂

    1. Thank you for the good wishes. Don’t worry about the relaxation. I sit in a lawn chair on my car port for a short while every night and pet one of the “outside” cats, Jake. He’s a glutton for affection.

  2. I can’t do anything half-way. If I immerse myself in the blogging world, my day is shot. Gone. Finito (is that a word?).
I cannot serve two masters. Something had to go and that’s what I’ve put aside: blogging. Sigh.
Go for it! Serve your first master. ❤ ❤ YOU.

    1. I, more or less, decided on this move because of you, Tess. ❤

I'm not being as strict as you though. There are issues I'll want to share with some of the blogosphere, and when that happens, I'll type a post.

  3. Good luck with your projects, Glynis. I think you made a wise choice in dedicating August to finishing them. I’ve been contemplating doing the same thing in October. I’ll be interested in hearing how it works for you this time.

    1. So far I haven’t got as much done as I’d like due to a technical problem and a dental issue. On July 18th, I’ll have the “dental procedure”. [I hate the work procedure when talking about health. It’s more personal than what the term implies.] The technical issue is suppose to clear up by the 20th or 21th, less than a week away.

What writing I am getting done is going well. I shall persevere! 😛

  4. My blogging has been so erratic this month, it must seem I’m on hiatus. I’ve often taken time off from writing, one entire year because of something I can’t publicly discuss, and other times because of family issues. More than one blogger has noted that maintaining an active blog and participating in blog camaraderie interferes with the time and concentration we need to devote to our writing. I don’t begrudge you the rest of the summer off and wish you well as you pursue your writing projects. You know where to find me in the meantime.

    1. How funny can this be? As I write this, there’s an email headed your way from me. It may already be there.

I’ve noticed, over the years I’ve been hoovering around the blogosphere, there’s usually a couple of lulls in posting numbers during this time of year. There’s also one around the winter holidays that includes Australia and the few other countries on the southern side of this weird world. From my perspective, it looks like all of us are hooked on the classic school year.
