#amwriting: Intermission

Yes, I know. This is supposed to be the post where I give my opinion about something in the news [#takeonnews] but I need to do something for myself before I become completely deranged.

I probably should have done this in December. After all, there were some great movies on the boob tube then for me to watch. And I had that awful cold. Somehow, though, it just didn’t seem to be the right time to take a reprieve from the chores of my blog. The truth of the matter is I thought the burden would be lessened by all the activity readers and other bloggers would find themselves facing during the height of the holiday season. Therefore, not as many comments to reply to or as many blog posts to read and comment on. There must have been a number of readers and bloggers thinking like me because I didn’t see any reduction in either.

My WiP is sitting collecting digital dust in the bibisco program that dwells within my brand new laptop. I think about this project every day. I need to finish Nora’s profile. I need to start AND finish Luis’s, Donovan’s and Mason’s. I need to do the fabula and a few narrative stands so that I can push Roslyn forward on her journey. Yet, instead of doing all these things I’m thinking about, I’m writing blog posts, commenting on the writings of fellow bloggers, and replying to the comments of my readers.

I’m acutely aware of the fact that I am not required to tell anyone of my plans to take a sabbatical from my blog. After all, it is just that, my blog. I write posts because I love to write and want people to read my words. There isn’t any financial gain in it. No one is going to die or be in dire straits if I don’t have a new post for a while. Yet, I feel this need to tell those who read my dribble an inkling of why I am not showing up on the big blogosphere out here in cyberspace.

My plan is to use all of February to work on my WiP. I’ll be declining the emails from WordPress.Com during this time so I’m not distracted by posts from fellow bloggers. It won’t delete them from my list so that when I come back, I can start receiving those emails again. 😛  I wish I could do the same with those who have their blogs in their own domains or are with Blogger. I’ll try just to delete the emails during the month.

I’ll still accept and reply to emails from individuals. In fact, I’ll probably be writing some emails to a few writers I keep in contact with in hopes of keeping up my morale during this workout I’ve set up for myself.

My leave of absence will begin on February 1st, next Thursday. I hope this time will give me what I need.
