Pausing

I would have had this post done and live this morning but until that moment earlier today, I hadn’t firmly decided what I was going to do. I’ve been floundering with my writing for some time now. It hasn’t been just a struggle like so many writers face. My writing has reached the depths of being inept.

I avoided this knowledge until I acquired critique partners. Evaluating their work showed me how bungling my skills were and still are. It wasn’t just all the comments they had about my manuscript either. [Don’t misunderstand. I’ve learned some things from those comments.] It was also my lack of comments about theirs. Someone with more skill would have had more to say about their manuscripts.

I love this craft and I want to be skilled when I write so I’m taking a sabbatical from blogging. I’m not sure how long I will not be contributing to the blogosphere but I will be popping in to read posts and comment on them. When I do come back, I may be doing it with another blog. I haven’t made up my mind about that yet.

While I am gone, I’ll be taking courses, doing writing exercises, reading books about writing, and working on my WiP. In other words, I’ll be busy.

Have fun and be well.

  1. Glynis, be cautious about crits from others. Some are excellent, some are intrusive. I’ve caught you with your hand in the writing jar – many of your posts are excellent. Blogging can be a big distraction, however, so take the time you need to focus on your manuscript. Wishing you well.

    1. Shari, both of the critique partners were good. Neither were nit-picky. I knew I had some issues with my writing before I even decided to go hunting for critiques. I do need to take something off my plate for a while or I’ll start feeling so overwhelmed that I won’t be able to focus. At this point, I don’t want it to be my endeavor in fictional writing.

  2. It sounds like you really do want to focus on getting writing done. Good on you for focusing on it even if you have to take a break away from the blog world. Good luck with that and with getting critiqued too, and hope you get constructive criticism. Keeping occupied is good as that’s usually the best way to learn.

  3. I understand and hope you get in lots of writing. Don’t be too hard on yourself either. Keep practising and don’t lose hope. We’ll all be here, waiting for you. x
